Austin Reed Closes Season with First SRL Start
21-Year Old Ready to Roll Dice in Vegas Shootout at SRL FinaleCOTO de CAZA, CA (November 18, 2014) Austin Reed has been behind the wheel of a variety of race cars this season from Outlaw Karts at Millbridge Speedway in North Carolina, to a Super Late Model at the Montana “200”, a Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Model, and his first start in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. This weekend he will check another box on his bucket list when his makes his first career start in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour finale Saturday night at The Bullring in Las Vegas driving the #14 Approved Memory/Lucas Oil Chevrolet .Joining Reed on his awesome adventure will be a lot of familiar names, most notably, Craig Raudman who will act as crew chief. Raudman drove the #14 SRL car for Dave Reed last month at Kern County notching a fourth place effort in his return to the seat and his knowledge of The Bullring will prove invaluable to the 21-year old.

In a season full of new experiences, Reed is optimistic about Saturday night. And why shouldn’t he be. He recorded a third place performance in his first trip to Magic Valley in his first RMCS race; raced through the qualifiers races and had a solid run in his first Montana 200; scored a tenth place finish in his first K&N Pro Series race; made his first start at Phoenix Int’l Raceway, and scored victories in the Outlaw Karts. A great season by any standard.

While The Bullring is known for the heat of summer, the West Coast Short Track Championships action this weekend will draw competitors from all over the Western United States, making it one of the most competitive fields of the season for the SRL. With a champion to be crowned, there will be several races within the SRL race.

“I grew up watching these cars,” Reed said. “My dad (Dave Reed) and Craig Raudman won a lot of races together and set a lot of records in these cars. Racing in this series is something I have wanted to do for a long time.”

The 3/8-mile paved banked oval of The Bullring offers unique challenges for drivers and crew and Reed is hedging his bets by stacking the odds in his favor with Raudman leading the charge along with Ron Copeland, Jeff Woods, Robert Dornback, and Steve Whitley who all have deep roots in the series and these cars. The Admiraal Racing Team out of Canada is supplying the transporter.

“There are a lot of people involved who want to see us be successful and just having all these guys on the team for this race is going to be special,” Reed offered.

Austin Reed resides in suburban Charlotte, NC where he study’s Mechanical Engineering and has recently starting working at Fluidyne, an industry leader whose name is synonymous with racing.  So between work, racing, and school, there is little time for much else. But when you are a racer you would not have it any other way. With 2014 coming to an end, Reed has been blessed with a truly fantastic season of firsts. Saturday night he is hoping for one more.

The 125-lap SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour finale can be seen tape-delayed onMAV TV. Check your local listing for the date and time in your area.
