Newhouse Preps for SRL Season Opener

As the Spear’s SRL Southwest Tour series kicks off the season with the first race of the year at Madera Speedway, 17 year old Rookie Hannah Newhouse anxiously awaits her change to hit the track for the first time. Not only has Newhouse never raced, let alone seen Madera Speedway, she has not seen a total of four out of the seven tracks the series will travel to this season. “My teachers expect me to pay attention this week in class when I know I get to hit the track in less than a week” stated Newhouse when asked on her thoughts about this coming weekend. Newhouse will be competing for the Rookie of the Year title, Young Guns title, and plans to be in the chase for the championship.

“There is a lot of pressure and competition in this series. I know I have my work cut out for me this year. But If I can accomplish what I know I am capable of doing, I feel like we will have a really successful year” said Newhouse. Newhouse will be running for JD Motorsports in the #61 Mr. Gas/Women in Sports Foundation Ford Fusion. She is looking forward to working with the team full time this year to compete in the SRL. “Mike Doss (Owner of JD Motorsports) has a great program and I look forward to the opportunity to run with them this year.” This isn’t Newhouse’s first time in one of Mike Doss’s cars as she made her debut in the series last season at Pikes Peak International Raceway and finished 11th.

When asked how she planned to prep for the upcoming race(s) Newhouse comically responded “Between YouTube video’s and iRacing I think I will have a pretty good idea of what to expect at most of the tracks. But racing is racing, you never know what to fully expect.” That response perfectly reflects on the resources available to drivers now compared to what previous generations had available to them. “There are a lot of seasoned drivers in the series that know their way around these tracks. This year is going to be about adapting and adapting quick if I plan on running upfront.”

The season will kick off March 15th at Madera Speedway where the Green Flag will wave at approximately 9:15pm.
