SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Returns to Irwindale Speedway

This Saturday night the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will make its only appearance at Irwindale Speedway in 2015. Saturday night’s “Spears Manufacturing 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse” is the fourth race of the 2015 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship season. Spectator Gates open at 4pm, Autograph Session at 5:45, Racing at 7pm.

 

 

NEWS and NOTES:

 

CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE – Heading to Irwindale Speedway this weekend, Tracy, California’s Jeff Bischofberger leads the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship standings by eleven points over Goleta’s Greg Voigt. Tracy Bolin is just one point behind Voigt in third. Carlos Vieira and Ryan Cansdale round out the top five just 29 and 36 out of the championship lead.

 

PAST RACE WINNERS – Drivers who have SPEARS Southwest Tour Series wins at Irwindale Speedway include M.K. Kanke (10/10/09, 9/4/10, 11/27/10), Jim Pettit II (4/26/08), Troy Ermish (7/18/09), Jonathon Gomez (7/17/10) and defending race winner Greg Voigt (8/16/14).

 

SPEARS HOME RACE – Series title sponsor Spears Manufacturing is based in Sylmar, California, making Saturday’s race at Irwindale Speedway the closest event to their headquarters. Spears, a world leader in plastic piping products will host over 300 guests at Saturday’s event.

 

 

POWER BONUS – Edelbrock Performance will add $1,000 to the winner’s prize, making it a $4,000 payday for Saturday’s winner.

 

FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM – The SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program is now in full swing as this will be the fourth race of the 2015 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series season. For the fifth consecutive year, the “SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program” awards teams $1,000 just for starting a SPEARS Southwest Tour Series main event after they have competed in four consecutive series races.

TWO KANKE’S – M.K. Kanke, the winningest driver in SPEARS Southwest Tour Series history at Irwindale Speedway will be back in action in his famed RPM Motor Sports #33. His son Cale, who will be making his SPEARS Southwest Tour Series driving debut this weekend, will join his dad in Saturday’s race in a second RPM Motor Sports entry.

 

TRACK RECORD – Derek Thorn set the one-lap SPEARS Southwest Tour Series track record at Irwindale on July 17th, 2010 at 17.635 seconds. Thorn, the winningest driver in SPEARS Southwest Tour Series history will be looking for his first SRL win at the Irwindale ½ mile oval.

 

NEW DRIVERS – Blaine Perkins and Cale Kanke will make their SPEARS Southwest Tour Series driving debuts this weekend.

 

2015 DEBUTS – Returning SPEARS Southwest Tour Series drivers who will be making their first start of the 2015 season, include; Mooresville, North Carolina’s Austin Reed; Frazier Park’s M.K. Kanke; Colorado Springs, Colorado’s Kevin Clark and Stockton’s Colby Potts.

 

ROOKIE CHASE – After his sixth place finish at Stockton 99 Speedway, Laguna Beach’s Ryan Cansdale extended his Rookie-of-the-Year Challenge points lead over Olympia, Washington’s’ Parker Stephens, 424 to 402.

 

SRL S2 SERIES – This weekend will be the first of four races for the SRL S2 Tour Series at Irwindale Speedway in 2015. Johnny Butler of Arcadia leads the series with 685 points, followed closely by Bakersfield’s Cory Elliott at 675. The eleven race 2015 SRL S2 Tour Series championship will be decided by a drivers ten best finishes on the year.

 

LEGENDS TOUR – Cody Winchel leads the SRL Legends Tour championship by just 47points over Sonny Cerveilli. Defending champion Tim Mangini is third.
