SRL – Top 10 Countdown, Schmidt

Finishing eighth, in the 2017 Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series Championship Standings, was Roseville, CA driver Eric Schmidt. Schmidt competed in eight of the nine series events, finishing with one top five and five top ten efforts. His best season finish was third, at Madera Speedway in July. He finished the season strong with eighth and seventh place outcomes at Kern County Raceway and the Bullring @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Schmidt’s last race, prior to those final events, found him leading 13 laps at Rocky Mountain Raceway. In an incident, with only six laps remaining, he was squeezed into the outside wall, which resulted in his only DNF of the season.

“The 2017 season was really a building year for us”, Schmidt told the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series. “We got off to a little bit of slow start, but we built up momentum throughout the season, and we finished up pretty well.”

The only driver to win a SPEARS Southwest Tour Series (2006), and a Pacific Challenge Series(2013) Championship, will be one of the drivers to watch for in 2018. The Roseville, CA driver possesses four SRL wins (11th all-time), as well as eight PCS victories (second all-time) in only 20 PCS starts. The SRL season opener, at Madera Speedway, will be SRL start number 53, for the two-time Win River 150 Open Comp winner. It will be at a track where he clinched his 2006 SRL Championship with a victory.

“I am really excited about this year in the SRL”, Schmidt began. “We plan to run the entire schedule and compete for the championship. I’m excited to be re-uniting with Eric Snyder, as my Crew Chief. Willie Allen will also be helping us out, so I feel really good about this year.”

Schmidt will bring his Sierra Speed and Technology, McGunegill Engine PerformanceChevrolet to the season opener at Madera, looking to get the season off to a strong start. Eric will be looking for touring series championship number three, and has the skill and the team to get it.
