SPEARS Southwest Tour Series at Historic Stockton 99

 

 

Bakersfield, CA – This Saturday night the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will make its only 2014 appearance at Stockton 99 Speedway, for the “Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats 125.” On Friday the teams will have four practice sessions from 3:30pm to 7pm. Saturday’s race is the sixth event of the ten-race SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship season. Joining the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series at Stockton 99 Speedway this Saturday night will be the NCMA Sprint Cars, the Pure Stocks and the B4’s. Spectator Gates 5pm, Heat races start at 6pm, SPEARS Southwest Tour Series qualifying at 7:15pm, followed by the main events.

 

 

NEWS and NOTES

 

 

PAST STOCKTON RACE WINNERS: Greg Voigt (1), Jacob Gomes (2), Derek Thorn (3) and Jeremy Doss (1) each have SPEARS Southwest Tour Series victories at Stockton 99 Speedway and are entered this weekend. Thorn and Doss each won at Stockton in 2013. Thorn is tied with Ron Strmiska, Jr. for the most career SPEARS Southwest Tour Series wins at Stockton 99 with three.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP TOP FIVE: With his win at Madera Speedway on June 28th, Derek Thorn moved to the top of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship standings with 837 points, followed closed by Jeremy Doss who is just 12 points back at 825, Brandon White is third after his disappointing DNF at Madera with 787, Ross Strmiska is 4th with 751 and Greg Voigt is 5th at 707.

 

MILESTONE START: Manteca’s Jacob Gomes, driver of the Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats #16 Chevrolet will be making his 50th career SPEARS Southwest Tour Series start this weekend.

 

PERFECTION: In fifteen career SPEARS Southwest Tour Series starts, Upper Lake’s Jeremy Doss has ‘zero’ DNF’s. Doss, along with Thorn have completed all 596 laps so far in 2014.

 

 

 

 

 

FIRST STOCKTON SERIES START: Rookies, Garret Archer and Blaine Rocha will be making their first SPEARS Southwest Tour Series starts at Stockton 99 Speedway this weekend.

 

STOCKTON 99 TRACK RECORD: Mike Mendenhall set the one-lap SPEARS Southwest Tour Series qualifying record of 13.083 seconds at Stockton 99 on October 3, 2009. It is the longest standing track record of all active tracks on the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series schedule.

 

SECOND HALF: Saturday’s race at Stockton 99 Speedway will be the first race of the second half of the 2014 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship. After Stockton 99, the series will make stops at Irwindale Speedway on August 16th, the one-mile Pikes Peak International Raceway on September 28th, Kern County Raceway Park on November 1st and the November 22nd finale at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Irwindale, Pikes Peak and Kern are part of the “Pat Pettit Memorial Triple Crown”, which pays the winner $5,003.00, $15,003.00, and $10,003.00 respectively for each event.
