ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH FOR THORN

Derek Thorn claims his 16th all-time career SPEARS Southwest Tour Series victory at the NAPA Auto Care Five Star 150 presented by Berkley Fishing at Rocky Mountain Raceway.

West Valley City, Utah-July 21, 2013. #43 Derek Thorn won the NAPA AutoCare Five Star 150, presented by Berkley Fishing, at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an American Speed Association member track, on Saturday, July 20. This marks Thorn’s second win at Rocky Mountain Raceways. Thorn won the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series event last year on July 21, 2012.

Thorn found a balance of conservation in the first laps of the 150-lap main and perseverance in the final laps. Passing #19 Brandon White, Thorn took the lead on lap 105 and maintained it through a handful of restarts.

White, a 2013 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series rookie at just 16 years of age, finished in third after perennial SRL contender #18 Jim Pettit IIpassed him for the second spot. #75 Jeremy Doss, another 16 year-old SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Rookie, finished in fourth with #88 Jason Gilbert rounding out the top five.
