BUDDY SHEPHERD TAKES LEAD IN SPEARS SOUTHWEST TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGSadmin
Championship Leader Showing that Consistency is Key after Third Top-5 finish in a row.
BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 7, 2018) – The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series rolled into Las Vegas this past weekend at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This 150 lap feature was the third race in the nine race schedule and the third race with at least a 28-car field. This season has provided great car counts and the best of the West battling race in and race out. One of the pre season favorites, Buddy Shepherd has managed to run up front every race so far this season and finds himself leaving Las Vegas as the points leader.
Shepherd was coming off consecutive fifth place finishes to start the season and found himself sitting third in the championship standings heading into Las Vegas. Buddy and his crew felt that he had a fast long run car, but struggled a bit on the short run and started the race in the eighth position. He was being patient early in the race and saving his tires for a charge at the end of the race.
At the halfway break, Buddy found himself in the eleventh position after giving up some positions to save his tires. In the second half of the race, it was clear that his car was one of the best as he started clicking off lap times as fast as the leaders. He was able to make it up to the fourth position and was catching the third place car, but unfortunately ran out of time and settled in for a fourth place finish.
“It was super fun being back at Las Vegas. I can’t thank Scott, my mom and my dad enough for the hard work throughout the weekend as we were shorthanded. I am looking forward to going back to Vegas at the end of the season” Shepherd said.
Shepherd will be back on track Saturday June, 9 at Irwindale Speedway for the fourth race of the 2018 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Championship schedule.
