Cansdale and HPR ready for 2016 return to SRLadmin
THOUSAND OAKS, California (January 11, 2016) — 2015 SRL season finale winner, Ryan Cansdale, and High Point Racing look to build off a strong 2015 Spears SRL Southwest Tour season that saw them end the season with 1 win, 2 top 5’s, and 6 top 10’s in 9 starts on the way to a 4th place finish in the championship. With his win at The Bullring, Ryan became only the second Rookie of the Year contender to win a race in SRL Tour history, and also the first driver to win SRL races in all three of its divisions (Legends, S2 and Tour). For 2016, Cansdale will once again be behind the wheel of his #31 MAC Steel sponsored High Point Racing/Racecar Factory SRL car.
“2016 will be our 4th year with Ryan in our stable.” Said team owner Tim Huddleston. “We have had the pleasure of watching him progress through three different divisions under our wing and, in every one of them, Ryan has taken us to victory lane. I feel as though the entire High Point Racing team is ready to roll our end of 2015 success into a big 2016 SRL Season with Ryan Cansdale as the Driver of the #31 MAC Steel High Point Racing Tour Car.”
Ryan, a Laguna Beach native, started racing at the age of five, winning multiple championships before making the move to oval racing in 2009. After multiple Bandolero and Legend titles, Ryan competed in the inaugural season of the SRL S2 Division for the High Point Racing Team. Adapting quickly to the full size stock car, Ryan finished every race in the top 10 with 5 wins and 12 top 5’s in the 13 events. He would be the S2 Series’ first Champion by the end of the season and the youngest driver to win on the half-mile at Irwindale Speedway. Ryan also participated in Late Models for the first time, becoming the youngest winner at Madera Speedway in that division. 2014 saw Ryan concentrate on his first full season in Late Models as a regular at Irwindale Speedway. He and the High Point Racing Team would compete in 17 events with 1 win, 5 top 5 and 12 top 10 finishes, finishing the season with a 4th place finish in the championship.
