Colorado’s Hansen Set For Irwindale

Jace Hansen will make the return trip to California, when he makes the 1,000 mile trek from Broomfield, CO to Irwindale Speedway for the “RJ Allen Inc. 100 presented by Traffic Management, Inc.” on March 23. This will be the second time, in the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series’ 19th season, that Irwindale will serve as the opener. It will be Hansen’s fourth start in the series, and his first visit to the half mile speedplant.

Hansen was a regular at Colorado National Speedway in 2016 and 2017, finishing as the championship riunner-up in both of those campaigns. He scored five wins in those two seasons. In 2018 he accumulated three top five’s, in only five starts, as the Jim Egli/Je-co Equipment team began to travel more. Hansen also traveled to Tucson Speedway, scoring a win, and to Evergreen Speedway, where he captured a seventh place result in the Summer Showdown.

The team’s travelling plans in 2019 included the 2019 Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway, the SRL season opener, and perhaps a few more “SPEARS Southwest Tour Series presented by Lucas Oil” starts.

“We have been talking about running the SRL series more often”, Hansen commented. “The car is close to ready, so we decided we would come out to Irwindale and see how we do.

Hansen finished 19th, in this year’s Winter Showdown, and 11th in 2018. His best finish in a SRL championship event was an 11th at the Bullring @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in November of 2017. Despite his lack of an SRL breakthrough finish, as of yet, Hansen is optimistic, and uses that as motivation to get better.

“The competition in this series is tough”, Hansen estimated. “I don’t think we have even cracked the top ten, in any of the races we have entered. That’s what keeps us coming back. We are always trying to improve our program, and we learn a ton, every time we race in the series.”

In his first start at Irwindale Speedway, Hansen’s goals are to improve their previous results, and get into the top-ten.

“Our biggest goal for the weekend is to improve our final results”, Hansen volunteered. “This is a new track to all of us, so that will make it even more rewarding if we can finish towards the front.”

Jace is looking forward to a great season behind the wheel, and gives credit for that to his car owner and friend.

“I can’t think Jim Egli and Je-co Equipment enough. He has gone above and beyond to supply the best parts and equipment. Without Jim, I wouldn’t even be in a drivers seat.”

Jace will be racing for the $5,000 winners share of the purse, thanks to the “Winners Bonus” provided by Senneker Performance.
