CONGRATULATIONS – Dean Thompson: 2020 Rookie of the Yearadmin
Congratulations to Dean Thompson, for scoring his second Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series presented by Lucas Oil Rookie-of-the-Race Award at last weekend’s “FAST – Fuel Air Spark Technology 110 presented by COMP Cams” at Kern County Raceway. Thompson finished sixth in the event, to lead all rookies, just edging out Buddy Shepherd, who finished seventh. The strong finish found the Irwindale Speedway 2020 Late Model Champion also capturing the 2020 SRL Rookie-of-the-Year Award, with his third top-10 effort of the season.
“The magnitude of winning Rookie of the Year in itself is an amazing accomplishment, but to win it in the Tour is just something I never would have imagined would happen”, Thompson stated. “I just got in these cars about a year ago, and really to be honest, they scared the he** out of me, because of their speed. But without these guys behind me I wouldn’t have been able to get from zero, in the All-Star Race qualifying, to Hero in Roseville, and ROTY.”
Thompson was thankful for the guys behind him, as well as his sponsors.
“I’d like to thank High Point Racing, Thompson Pipe Group, HAAS Racing Development, Ford Performance, Lucas Oil, and all my friends, family, and those who support me and the series.
The SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series teams will only get a short break, as the 2021 season opening All-Star Showdown in scheduled for February 5th & 6th at Irwindale Speedway. The event, sponsored by Sunrise Ford, will pay $30,000 to the winner.
