Eric Schmidt Looks for Hometown SRL Win Worth $10,000

Bakersfield, CA – 2006 Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series champion Eric Schmidt is looking forward to a little home cooking, as the Roseville, CA driver will make the short hop over to the Placer County Fairgrounds and ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA for the $10,000-to-win “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Back in Business 127”. Schmidt is a former track champion at the facility, but has yet to score a touring series victory at the track, despite nine top-five finishes encompassing the ARCA Menards Pro Series West, Pacific Challenge Series and the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour. His biggest challenge has been with the SRL, earning only one top-five and two top-10 finishes in four starts. He will look to turn that around on March 5th.
Schmidt’s last SRL starts at Roseville were in 2020, in which he finished ninth and 15th. The prior season he came home 18th, but those results far from reflect his performance during those events. The 2019 run found Schmidt leading, but contact with Linny White sent the veteran racer into the spin cycle. Schmidt recovered into the top-five in the 25-car field, but overheating sidelined his effort with 10 laps to go. Both 2020 efforts saw Schmidt qualify into the top-eight redraw, but overheating spoiled one effort and a ninth-place effort was a disappointment for the 2018 championship runner-up.
The former The New Stockton 99 Speedway champion made only one SRL start in 2021. The day at Stockton ended in a disappointing accident in Turn #3, and a 16th-place finish. Schmidt will look to rebound at Roseville and kick off his 2022 season with his sixth career series win, which would be worth $10,000.
Admission Gates for the $10,000-to-win “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Back in Business 127” will open at 4:00 PM. The SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series will be joined by the SPEARS Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Spears Modified Series. The local Mini Cup / Bandolero Division, F4 Division and Super Stocks will also join the action. Qualifying will begin at 3:55 PM with Opening Ceremonies scheduled at 5:00 PM. The Feature events will begin shortly thereafter with the SPEARS Modified Series closing out the evenings action.
Celebrating its twenty-second season in 2022, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
