EVANS GOES FOR SHOWDOWN DOUBLEDOWN

WENATCHEE, Wash. (December 31, 2015)– Two-time defending Northwest Super Late Model Series Champion Garrett Evans will head to the 2016 Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, CA at the end of February. The East Wenatchee, WA Driver is one of the most notable Late Model drivers in the country with 7 Touring Late Model Series Championships and over 350 feature wins.  Evans will be going for the Double Down bonus between the Winter Showdown and Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. Both Showdowns have quickly become 2 of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country in just their first few years. Evans has finished 2nd in the last two Summer Showdowns. The winner of the Winter Showdown this year will take home $30,000 and the Showdown Double down winner will take additional $10,000 bonus.

“We are really looking forward to going to Kern County and the Winter Showdown, we’ve never raced there before but the track looks amazing and really fast.” Said Evans  “We will be debuting a brand new Hamke Chassis and Hamner Racing Engine package and are looking for big things from it in 2016.”

February will be a very busy month for Evans and his team as they travel 2,630 miles to race at the Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina for the PASS Winter Meltdown at the beginning of February. The team will be racing an older Evans Crate Motor car. They will then pick up the new car and motor and return back to Washington 2,630 miles for a few days to put final touches on the new car. The team will load up again and travel 1,100 miles south to the Winter Showdown in California. “It’s going to be a very busy month and my team will have a lot of work but we are all really looking forward to both of these races.” Said Evans “Both the PASS Series and SRL Series are great and have amazing promoters and staff.”

Some drivers slow down as they get older; Evans who turns 60 in January is still racing and winning races at his age. “I’m racing against a lot guys and gals half my age or even younger than me but I’m still having fun and love racing.” Said Evans “I’ve got my son and daughter coming up racing more in the next couple of years but as long I’m still enjoying doing what I love than I want to race.”

Both of the races will feature some top short track drivers in the country including Bubba Pollard, Dalton Sargent, Derek Thorn, Jeremy Doss, Zane Smith and many more. “In the winter all we have is a lot of snow so it’s either sit in the shop or travel to race and my team loves to race.” Said Evans “We like to race against the best and that is what we will do in February.” Last year, the Winter Showdown featured 52 entries and the pass series averages over 23 cars per race.
