GOMES: ALL-TIME START LEADER
Jacob Gomes will make his 96th career SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series start on Saturday, July 20th at Irwindale Speedway, in the “RJ Allen Inc.100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse San Dimas” The monumental start will break a tie with Troy Ermish, and push the 26-year-old driver to the top of the all-time list.
The 2015 SRL Champion is a seven-time winner in the series, and missed out on win number eight in the last quarter lap of the last event at Kern County Raceway. Linny White was able to make a last corner pass of Bob Lyon to snatch the win away from Gomes.
With Gomes still going strong, the Manteca, CA driver commented on his accomplishment, his relationship with the series and what it means to him.
“It means I’m old, LOL. No, it just means we have always been completely committed to the SRL, since day one, and they put together a great series. We love running with them. It is a very competitive series that Larry and Brian have put together, and it means a lot to me and my team have been around this long. We look forward to more starts, some more wins, and another championship.”
The SRL’s Brian Olsen recalls Gomes beginnings in the series and his growth throughout the years.
“I can’t believe he’s starting his 96th race this weekend. It seems like yesterday he was waiting to turn 16, so he could be old enough to race with us, and now he’s the All Time Starts Leader. He’s had an outstanding career so far, highlighted by his 2015 championship. It’s been great seeing him grow, not only as a driver, but as young man as well.”

For fans on the west coast, come out to Irwindale Speedway this weekend, to meet Jacob in the autograph session and congratulate him on his 96th start in a row. It is something no one else has ever done in series history.
