Jacob Gomes Accepts Double Down Challenge for Berlin and Colorado National

Two-time and defending Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series champion Jacob Gomes will be making his racing debut at two different facilities in the beginning of August. On August 9th, Gomes will take on the stars from Berlin Raceway (MI) and the SRL National series looking for a $30,000 payday in the “Battle at Berlin 250”. Only a few days later, Gomes will head to Dacono, CO to compete against the Colorado National Speedway Super Late Model competitors and the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series stars in the $10,000-to-win “Salted Metals Architectural Metals 150”. He will make his debut at both facilities.
Gomes won the season opening event for the SRL National and Spears Southwest Tour when he crossed the line first in the $25,000-to-win “All-Star Showdown 200” at Irwindale Speedway (CA). He has visited Victory Lane four more times with the Spears Southwest Tour in six events. He finished eighth in the ASA Stars Tour opener at 5 Flags Speedway (FL) and was running in the top-10 when Ty Majeski made contact with Gomes during the “Joe Shear Classic 200” at Madison International Speedway (WI), ending his day in 16th. With two races in three days, with two different series, at two new tracks, it will certainly be a challenge for the Manteca, CA racer.
“I’m sure it’s not gonna be easy”, Gomes expressed. “But I’m really excited to push myself and try to learn on the fly as a driver, and to get good at new places, while racing with some of the best drivers out there. I always enjoy traveling when racing. It’s a great experience for me and the team.”
Gomes will make only his second start in the SRL National, but sits second in the championship standings behind Bubba Pollard, thanks to his $25,000 win. With $30,000 on the line at Berlin Raceway, he could take the championship lead over Pollard with a win. In the Spears Southwest Tour, he has a comfortable 110 point advantage over John Moore, while earning $58,500 this season. With a sweep of the week’s events, Gomes could pocket over $40,000 in cash.
Gomes won the Spears Southwest Tour championship over Jeremy Doss by two-points in 2022. But the 2010 Rookie-of-the-Year has been on fire as of late. He now tallies 14 career victories, sitting two wins behind Jim Pettit II for the runner-up spot in all-time series triumphs. His 14 Pole Awards are second to only Derek Thorn. He is second in top-five finishes behind Thorn, and he is second in top-10’s with 89, only three behind Thorn. His 131 starts lead the league.
Look for Gomes to thrive on the Berlin / CNS challenge, as he feels good about his chances for a win.
“I’m excited to get to do it, and I think we have a good shot (at victory)”.
Celebrating its twenty third season in 2023, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
