Modifieds at 2016 Winter Showdown

Bakersfield, CA – The 2nd Annual Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California has just confirmed the addition of a $5,000 to win (up from $4,000 in 2015) event for Modifieds.

The Winter Showdown is one of the nation’s premier events for Super Late Models and Tour Cars, drawing drivers from around the nation, including last year’s winner Bubba Pollard from Senoia, Georgia.

The Modified race will headline the racing on Saturday, February 27, 2016, the opening night of the two-day event. Saturday night will also feature qualifying and qualifying races for the Sunday’s Super Late Model Winter Showdown 250. The Modifieds will be officiated by the staff of the Lucas Oil Modified Series.

The Winter Showdown has quickly become one of the nations most talked about short track events. With over $150,000 in prize money, the Winter Showdown is also one of the richest race events of its kind in North America. The nationally televised event will once again take place at the state-of-the-art Kern County Raceway Park half-mile oval, in Bakersfield, California.

“We have a great relationship with Greg Scheidecker and everyone at the Lucas Oil Modified Series,” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins. “This will be a non-points race for the Modifieds and we look forward to the Modifieds being part of the Winter Showdown.”

At release time, $25,000 total prize money for the Modifieds was announced, with $5,000 going to the winner. Plus, an additional $300 in tow money will be awarded to the top 10 in the 2015 Lucas Oil Modified Series, and $200 to 11th to 24th in 2015 points. Additionally, there will be four provisional starting positions for the top 24 in 2015 Lucas Oil Modified Series points.

The Winter Showdown schedule for the Modifieds will consist of a Friday test day, and will headline the racing on Saturday night, with practice, qualifying and the main event. Saturday will also feature qualifying for the Winter Showdown 250, and qualifying races to set the field for Sunday. Sunday will feature the last chance race for the Super Late Models, followed by the afternoon start for the Winter Showdown 250.

The 2nd Annual Winter Showdown is set for February 26, 27 and 28 2016.
