NASCAR Champ Jason Gilbert Returns to Southwest Tour Action at Redwood Acres Raceway
Bakersfield, CA – 2008 NASCAR Whelen All American Series State of California Champion Jason Gilbert will make his first Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series start in two years, in the “Rumble in the Woods 125” at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka, CA on August 13th. It will be the series fourth appearance at the facility and Gibert’s first since 2013, when he finished fourth in the series championship standings. It was his lone start at the 3/8-mile oval, where he finished sixth behind winner Jim Pettit II.
I’m really excited to be back in a “Super”, and the last time we were at RAR (Redwood Acres Raceway) was 2013”, Gilbert recalled. “I remember the track surface made for comers and goers. I have always been drawn to those tracks.”
The former Altamont Motorsports Park Track Champion will be making his 53rd start in the series, where he has 25 top-10 finishes, good for 21st all-time. The Dublin, CA racer has ventured out to several big paying events, including four starts in the “Summer Showdown” at Evergreen Speedway. Twice he has come home in the top-10, including his last start in 2019, when he finished sixth. He also had a strong eight-place run in the “Fall Open Comp”, at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway that season.
His best career SRL finish was a second at Irwindale Speedway, while also earning two fourth-place championship finishes in his SRL career. His best season was in 2012, where he ripped off six top-five finishes in 10 events. He finished between two SRL champions that year, with M.K. Kanke third and Jacob Gomes fifth.
Gilbert will look to score another top-10 finish, to move himself up the standings in that career stat. He is thankful for the opportunity to compete on the historic 3/8-mile.
“I would really like to thank my Crew Chief (my Dad). He has put in so much time to get the car together”, Gilbert stated. “I’d also like to thank Daniel Blouin, Ken Morgan & family, Scott Sanchez, David’s Racing Products, HUR Performance Engines and our family and friends for always supporting us.”
The “Rumble in the Redwoods 125” is the seventh event of the 2022 Spears Southwest Tour Series campaign. Four drivers have logged victories this season in the first six events. $5,000 will go to the winning driver on the 13th. Qualifying is scheduled for 6:00 pm with Opening Ceremonies to follow.
