Nick Cooper Looks Forward to First “Winter Showdown” Appearance

Bakersfield, CA – Nickolas Cooper will make his first trip to Kern County Raceway Park (CA), as a competitor, to participate in the “8th Annual Winter Showdown 135” this Saturday night. The Severance, CO driver has made the trip as a crew member in the past, but he will finally get the chance to wheel a Super Late Model on the fast ½-mile tri-oval in Bakersfield, CA. Cooper will make his third start in the series after participating in the last two Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series events at Irwindale Speedway (CA). His last start found him 14th in the “All-Star Showdown 200” in a field of 29. He will seek a $10,000 payday this weekend.
Cooper is coming off his second consecutive championship runner-up finish at Colorado National Speedway. He completed the season with two wins, five top-five’s and eight top-10’s in eight feature events. He will continue his partnership with team owners Kevin and Melissa Steinke and the Rocky Mountain Motorsports Team in their VanDoorn Racing Development Chassis Super Late Model. The two-time Rocky Mountain Legend Racing Association championship runner-up has been looking forward to competing at Kern for several years. He is happy to finally get the opportunity this weekend after mostly competing at shorter tracks throughout the center of the country.
“Ever since I walked through the tunnel at Kern I have wanted to race there, and now I look forward to competing in my first Winter Showdown”, Cooper stated. “Even though I haven’t turned any laps there, and my first lap will be in the semi on Friday when I enter Turn 3, to pull down to the infield (I love how everyone parks in the center of the track), I believe that our experience at Irwindale will help us get used to the speed of the big half mile track! They are two different animals, but I look forward to the challenge!”
Cooper made the trip to the “All-Star Showdown 200” with teammate Zach Morris, but he will be on his own this weekend. The task of learning the track, and getting the car setup for the high-speed facility, will be solely on he and his crew’s plate Friday and Saturday. It is a challenge Copper is excited for and he is thankful to those who have made it possible.
“I would like to give a big thanks to Adams Polishes, Neighbors Trailer, Buckeye Welding Supply Company, and Vandoorn Racing Development. And of course, my wife, Kevin and Melissa Steinke, the entire RMM Team, as well as my family and friends!”
The “8th Annual Winter Showdown 135” will feature a Fireworks Spectacular, Live Music, Camping, Vendors, and the Super Late Models of the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series. The Spears Modified Series and the Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services will also join the action.
Celebrating its twenty third season in 2023, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
