Returning to Championship Form

Returning to Championship Form

2015 Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series Champion Jacob Gomes is in the midst of returning to championship form, as he heads into the third event of the championship season. Gomes currently sits second in the championship standings as the series heads to the Bullring @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the “$10,000 to Win Retro Custom Metals 150″ on May 4th.

The turn around began at Madera Speedway, in September of 2018. The Manteca, CA driver was victorious in the “SPEARS Southwest Tour 125 presented by 51 FIFTY LTM“. Since then, he has scored an additional top five and two top ten results, with a rear end failure producing his only finish outside the top seven. Unfortunately that 27th place finish was at the Bullring. It was an event that Gomes had qualified in the second position, behind Eric Schmidt, which gives him confidence heading back.

“I think we’ve got a good shot”, Gomes told the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. We had a good shot the last time there, but broke early. I’m really excited to go back again. We have just been giving it our all, working hard in the shop as we have. I myself have just been trying to race better, and make sure to be there at the end.”

Gomes would love nothing more than to bring home another championship, and to score some victories along the way.

“We’ve had a good start, and I’m just gonna keep finishing every lap, be there all year, get some wins and try to get another championship.”

To win a championship in the SRL, it takes time, skill, hard work, dedication and the support of your team and sponsors.

“I’d really like to thank my whole crew, for all the hard work so far this year”, Gomes explained “It’s hard to go racing sometimes for us. I’m just thankful for my guys working full time at there jobs, and coming to the shop and track and working almost another full time job going racing.”

Gomes continued, “I am very thankful for my sponsors who make this possible on the financial side. I want to thank Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats, Dennis Arbini, Del’Osso Farms Pumkin Patch, Studio 10 Wraps, Valley Pacific Petroleum Services, David’s Racing Products and Frontier Performance Lubricants.

Like many of his fellow competitors, Gomes is appreciative of David Nava Mulcahy, and Retro Custom Metals, for their continued support of the SRL, and the racers in the series.

“I’m extremely thankful for Homie supporting our series”, Gomes expressed! “He’s always helping with sponsoring races, and always putting up money for us to chase on the big pay races.”

On May 4th, Gomes will be chasing $10,000 at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. If he should get it, the 2015 SRL Champ will truly say “I’m back”!
