Robertson Looks to Add Winter Showdown Win to His Resume

Bakersfield, CA – Colorado will once again bring a strong contingent of Super Late Models to California on March 25th. This time the destination will be Bakersfield, CA, and Kern County Raceway Park (CA) for the “8th Annual Winter Showdown 135” for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour. “Centennial State” representative Darren Robertson opened his season at Irwindale Speedway (CA), and the “All-Star Showdown 200” for the SRL National / Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series. He finished an impressive fifth in the 29-car field. He will now venture a couple of hours north to make only his second Super Late Model start in the “Golden State”, looking for even more success on the high-speed ½-mile.
“We had many things to fight through at Irwindale, being a new team, with new cars, new team members, and not racing there ever in the past”, Robertson explained about the challenges the team faced at Irwindale. “I feel that everyone kept focused and made gains all weekend long, and I’m really proud of their efforts and successes. We had a really great car on long runs, and I knew we would move forward in the race. Finishing fifth definitely has all of us excited for Kern and hoping we can build off of what we learned at Irwindale and have a good finish also.”
Robertson is a three-time Super Late Model track champion at Colorado National Speedway (CO). He won three consecutive championships at CNS from 2017 to 2019, and was the track’s Rookie-of-the-Year in 2005. He scored the NASCAR State of Colorado Regional Championship in 2017. In 2013, he won the track’s most prestigious event, earning a “Colorado Challenge Cup” victory. Darren follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Odie and his father Jerry, who also grabbed three Super Late Model titles and three “Challenge Cup” victories at CNS.
Robertson will need to bring all his experience to the unique Kern County Raceway Park, if his is hopeful of bringing home the $10,000 first-place prize. He will rely on fellow Colorado racers for a good baseline for the car, as well as his experience at the facility, helping some of his fellow racers, to get up to speed quickly.
“I look forward to Kern and the challenge of yet another new track”, Robertson relayed, in regard to competing at the facility for the first time. “I have been there many times to help other racers, so I feel like I know a little of what to expect. We have a few Colorado racers (Jace Hansen, Preston Peltier) who have had success at Kern in the past, so I am definitely going to be leaning on them for some advice, before we get out there.”
Robertson is grateful for his family, team and sponsors who make the trip possible.
“Thanks to Mark Rush, Royal Purple Oil, Buckeye Welding Supply, Swift Springs, Walters Batteries, Radios USA, and United Facility Solutions”, Robertson said.”
The “8th Annual Winter Showdown 135” will feature a Fireworks Spectacular, Live Music, Camping, Vendors, and the Super Late Models of the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series. The “Tour” will have a break on lap 80, for the teams to make adjustments. The Spears Modified Series and the Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services will also join the action.
Celebrating its twenty third season in 2023, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
