Sigma Performance Services (SPS) will be fielding three Super Late Models…

Sigma Performance Services (SPS) will be fielding three Super Late Models in the October Classic at Kern County Raceway on October 24th and 25th. Preston Peltier, Jim Wulfenstein and Brandon Farrington will represent the Joe Farre’ owned organization, in the “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Round #3 Boogie Man 127 presented by KHI Management Inc.” for the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series. Farre’ is a long-time competitor in the SRL and is delighted to be able to field three quality rides for the October Classic.

“SPS is very proud of the three-car entry for the upcoming SRL October Classic”, Farre’ stated. “While we have been hard at work in the shop, our teammates, and team members have been hard at work forging the support and relationship that it takes to make a multi-car teamwork.”

Leading the effort is Preston Peltier, the 2010 PASS South and PASS National Super Late Model Series Champion. Peltier is the Director of Racing Operations for SPS, and has had only sporadic starts in 2020. He does have a victory at Colorado National Speedway and finished second in the SRL’s All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway. The five-time Easter Bunny 150 winner, at Hickory Motor Speedway, is excited to be making his first start in the October Classic, having grown up only a few miles away from Mesa Marin Raceway, in Frazier Park, CA.

“I used to watch the October Classic when I was a kid at Mesa Marin, so getting to race in it for the first time is something I’m looking forward to”, the three-time Summer Showdown winner stated. “I haven’t been in a car much this year, but we have been working hard behind the scenes and I’m hoping all that hard work pays off next weekend.”

The three-time Summer Showdown winner, at Evergreen Speedway, will be one to keep an eye on, as he does have experience on Kern County Raceway’s fast ½-mile. He also has a win in SPEARS Southwest Tour Series competition, which came at Irwindale Speedway. He has five starts in the Winter Showdown with two top-five finishes, with a best result of third in the 2019 edition. In May of 2020, Peltier came home fourth in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series championship event, driving in the SPS Super Late Model for the first time.

Peltier will be joined by veteran racer Jim Wulfenstein. Wulfenstein will be making his second October Classic appearance, after finishing in the top-10 in last year’s edition. The driver from Pahrump, NV is a two-time track champion in the Super Late Models at the LVMS Bullring and Dirt Track, where team owner Joe Farre’ met him for the first time.

“Jim Wulfenstein and I go back a long way back, to the early LVMS dirt track days”, Farre’ recalled. “Jim was a premier competitor in my early Las Vegas days, and I was very fortunate to meet him.”

Wulfenstein will be making his first SRL start of the 2020 season, and first since the “Star Nursery 100” Super Late Model Open Comp race back in February at the Bullring. He finished 12th in that event, in a field of 24, but will be looking for a better result in the October Classic.

“I’m really looking forward to it”, Wulfenstein exclaimed! “I had a good run last year and I’m hoping to do better this year.”

The third member of the SPS group, heading to Kern County Raceway, is the youngest driver in the fold. Brandon Farrington will be behind the wheel of the TMI – Tucson Motorsports Inc. (TMI) Super Late Model, owned by Brad Corneliusen . Farrington is a three-time Super late Model Champion at Tucson Speedway and a rookie in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. The team and driver have become a part of the SPS program, with Dustin Ash acting as Crew Chief.

“Our connection with Brad Corneliusen, Brandon Farrington and the TMI team is somewhat new to the shop, but is based in the strong existing relationship between Dustin Ash and the TMI team”, Farre explained. “The common element that ties us all together is the “family” style approach to friends, family, and racing.  Having a common belief helps us all keep pointed in the same direction while enjoying the camaraderie of our friends, families, and teammates. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to a strong future…  stay tuned!”

Farrington has three starts in his SRL rookie season thus far. His only experience at Kern County Raceway was in the 2017 edition of the Winter Showdown. That experience was limited however, as after finishing in a transfer position in the Last Chance Qualifying race, he didn’t make it through post-race tech, missing the 36-car starting field. But the driver from Tucson, AZ is still looking forward to making the return to Bakersfield, and will be looking for better results, in a car he knows is capable of running towards the front.

“We’re very excited to go to Kern”, Farrington stated. “I don’t have a lot of seat time at Kern, but I know we will be taking a good car there, so it will be on me to get up to speed in the first practice session.”

Keep an eye on the Sigma Performance Services Team, as they have Super Late Model Championship credentials behind the wheel of each of it’s three entries. Will one of them bring home the October Classic victory next week….stay tuned to find out.
