Spangler will be making his third start of the season…

Keith Spangler will be making his third start of the season, when the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series visits Kern County Raceway for the 31st Edition of the October Classic on October 24th and 25th. For Spangler, the “JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.. Wild West Shootout Round 3 – Boogie Man 127 presented by KHI Management Inc.” will be series start number 99 for the veteran racer. He will be looking for career top-10 number 56, which would tie him with Jim Pettit II for third on the all-time list.

This will be Spangler’s second October Classic at Kern County Raceway, after finishing a disappointing 23rd in 2019, with overheating problems. At Mesa Marin, Spangler competed in nine October Classic events, in the NASCAR Southwest Tour Series, finishing in the top-10 four times, with a best result of seventh in the 2003 edition. Spangler and Car owner David (Homie) Mulcahy debuted a new chassis in 2019, utilizing most of their existing equipment to complete the car.  For the 2020 season, Homie made additional investments and improvements to their Super Late Model, which has resulted in Spangler scoring solid runs in both events he attended. He also came home as the “Coleman Powersports Hard Charger Award” winner at both of those Irwindale Speedway appearances.

The low budget racer from Porter Ranch, CA is known for getting the most out of his equipment, and with the upgrades and time to prepare the car for the October Classic, the former Saugus Speedway Super Late Model Championship runner-up will be shooting for another top-10 with hopes to be in the top-five when the checkered flag falls. For this opportunity to continue racing in the SRL, Spangler is thankful to several friends and sponsors.

“I would really like to thank by good friend Homie (David Nava Mulcahy) and Retro Custom Metals for their support all of these years. I would also like to thank Port City Racecars, Spangler Racing, Dave, Dana and all the guys who help me out at each event. I couldn’t do it without them.”

The “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Round 3 – Boogie Man 127 presented by KHI Management Inc.” will be Round #7 of the nine-race SPEARS Southwest Tour Series schedule. The event will pay $5,027 to win. $1,000 will be paid out to the leader on lap 27 from JM Environmental. $500 will be paid at the halfway mark, thanks to Kendall Peters with AKM Maintenance. The Performance Friction Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Award will also payout another $500 with help from JM Environmental. The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will be joined by the Spears Modified Series, ARCA Menards Pro Series West, Sigma Performance Services Pro Late Models and Street Stocks, for a huge weekend of racing. The Pro Late Models and Street Stocks will compete on both Saturday and Sunday, with 60 and 40 lap features, respectively.

For those unable to attend, the event will be shown live at www.SpearsRacing.TV. The Spears Southwest Tour Series will be featured on the live broadcast, along with the Spears Modifieds, Pro Late Models and the Super Stocks. Saturday’s broadcast will begin at approximately 3:30 pm (PST) and capture the final practice sessions for the Spears Modifieds and Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series. The Super Stock and Sigma Performance Services Pro Late Model Features will follow. Sunday will capture the Spears SRL Southwest Tour, Spears Modified, Sigma Performance Services Pro Late Model and Street Stock Feature events.

The event will also be shown on MAVTV at a date to be announced later. It will be a part of the “2020 Southwest Short Track Racing Series”, which will air every other week on Sundays at 2:00 pm (PST).

Celebrating its twentieth season in 2020, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
