SECOND TIME:  This Saturday will mark the second time the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series has competed on the D-shaped oval of Kern County Raceway Park.  On September 7th of 2013, Jim Pettit II won the 100-lap event at Kern County Raceway, followed by Derek Thorn, Greg Voigt, Donny St. Ours and Brandon White.

 

CURRENT POINT LEADER:  After his win at the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series season opener at Madera Speedway, seventeen year old Brandon White will carry the championship points lead into Kern County Raceway this weekend.  White from Eureka, California won at Madera, which was just his eleventh series start.  Current championship top five: White (180 points), Ross Strmiska (170), Jacob Gomes (165), Jeremy Doss (160), Carlos Vieira (155).

 

ROOKIE CONTENDERS:  Garret Archer from Black Diamond, Washington was the top Rookie-of-the-Year contender at Madera, when he drove his NTS Motorsports Chevrolet to a sixth place finish in his first series start. Rookie contenders Cole Loftsgard, Jeff Bischofberger and Hannah Newhouse finished 10th, 13th and 17th respectively at the season opener.

 

CHAMPIONS: A record tying number of five past Southwest Tour Series champions are entered in Saturday night’s DC’s RV Center 100 presented by AmeriPride Services at Kern County Raceway.  Past champions entered include; Jim Pettit II (2008, 2011, 2013), Derek Thorn (2012), Jonathon Gomez (2010), M.K. Kanke (2009), and Craig Raudman who won the NASCAR Southwest Series title in 2001.

 

 

 

S2 SERIES NEWS:  Two-time NASCAR West Series champion, Bill Sedgwick will drive the High Point Racing #50 S2 this weekend.  NTS Motorsports recently acquired an S2 car, which will be driven this weekend by Cory Elliott, with other drivers scheduled later this season to drive the NTS S2, including NTS owner Bob Newberry.  Bakersfield drivers Chris Morrison and Brandon Weaver will make their second S2 starts of the season, their first start at their home track.

 

EVENT 411:  This Saturday night is the 2014 season opening event for Kern County Raceway Park. The event will feature the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series, the SRL S2 Tour Series, the SRL Legends, Bandoleros and Fireworks.  Grandstand opens at 4pm, on-track autograph session at 5:30pm, SPEARS Southwest Tour Series qualifying at 6:30pm, opening ceremonies at 7pm.
