SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Travels North to Redwood Acres Racewayadmin
Bakersfield, CA – This weekend the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will make the trip up the California coast to Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka, California for the fifth race of the 2015 championship season. It will be just the second time the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series has competed at “The Acres” following its inaugural race there in 2013.
“It’s a great place to race,” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins. “It’s your classic fair grounds track with a lot of history. In 2013, we had a great race in front of a packed house, so we’re looking forward to another great event this weekend.”
The 3/8-mile oval, located at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds was built in 1947 as a dirt track before being paved in 1987.
“The average temperature throughout the summer months in Eureka is just under 70 degrees, so it’s a nice break from the summer heat for our teams.” Collins added.
There will be an open test session for the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series on Friday from 4:30pm to 7:30pm, followed by a barbecue for the teams.
Saturday will feature a full line up of racing with Thunder Rosters, Bombers, Mini Stocks, Roadrunners and the headlining 125-lap SPEARS Southwest Tour Series event. Grandstands open at 4:30pm, SPEARS Southwest Tour Series qualifying at 6pm, followed by a complete night of racing.
CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE – Goleta’s Greg Voigt leads the tight championship battle, where just 75 points separate the top seven teams. Voigt leads the standings with 619 points, followed closely by rookie Ryan Cansdale from Laguna Beach at 589, with Eureka’s Brandon White in third position with 570 points. Note: 180 points are awarded for a race win.
FIRST TIME – In June of 2013, Jim Pettit II drove to victory in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series event at Redwood Acres Raceway, with Ross Strmiska second and Jacob Gomes in third. Gomes is the current track record holder at 15.47 seconds.
FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM – The SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program is now in full swing as this will be the fifth race of the 2015 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series season. For the fifth consecutive year, the “SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program” awards teams $1,000 just for starting a SPEARS Southwest Tour Series main event after they have competed in four consecutive series races.
ROOKIE CHASE – After his third place finish at Irwindale Speedway, Ryan Cansdale extended his Rookie-of-the-Year Challenge points lead over Olympia, Washington’s’ Parker Stephens, 589 to 540.
LOCAL LEGEND – Five-time Redwood Acres Raceway champion, Jimmy Walker will compete with the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series this weekend in his well-know baby blue (aka Walker blue) and silver numerated 48 car.
