SRL SOUTHWEST TOUR TO RACE AT KERN RACEWAY SEPTEMBER 7TH
BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (January 18, 2013) – Continuing with a rich tradition of Southwest Tour car racing in Bakersfield, Kern County Raceway Park has signed the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour for a major event on September 7th at the brand-new asphalt track.
The announcement of the SRL comes after yesterday’s announcement of a 24 race schedule that will include NASCAR Division 1 Limited Late Models, Pro Late Models, and Spec Modifieds running on the half-mile, with Mini Stocks, Legends, Bandoleros, and Mini Dwarfs all scheduled to race on the quarter-mile this season.
Additional divisions will be announced soon including the divisions that will share the card with the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour cars. The SRL Southwest Tour is one of the fastest short track stock cars on the West Coast and will run ten races across four states in 2013. Kern County Raceway Park, a high-banked track just over a half-mile, is expected to be the second fastest track on the circuit behind the one mile Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado.
“The new half-mile at Kern County Raceway Park was designed with Tour cars in mind, and the first race for our series at the new track is going to be something that no one will want to miss,” Larry Collins of the SRL said.
Numerous SRL teams are based in the Bakersfield area including notably the 2012 series champion Derek Thorn. Thorn won six out of the ten races last season in his #43 Four Star Fruit Chevrolet. He will be joined by another Bakersfield-based team with series Rookie of the Year Jeff Oleen driving for NTS Motorsports.
The SRL also sanctions the entry level S2 Sportsman along with the grassroots SRL Legends Tour, which runs the same US Legends Cars that Kern County Raceway Park will run on a weekly basis in 2013. Both divisions are expected to run as the under card for the September 7th event but are yet to be confirmed at this time.
