THE OCTOBER CLASSIC IS BACK – BIGGER AND BETTER

BAKERSFIELD, CA – After the return of the legendary “October Classic” at Kern County Raceway in 2018, the iconic event is back again in 2019. For 29 years the “October Classic” was the biggest short track event on the west coast as it culminated the annual race season at Mesa Marin Raceway.  Some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Harvick, Busch, Allison, Hornaday, Thirkettle, Carelli and others made the fall event a “must” each and every race season. Now it’s the next generation of stars that are looking to take home the prestigious honor of winning the “October Classic”.

The 2018 edition received rave reviews and race fans look to returning to the Central California Half Mile once again this October. However, 2019 will see a few changes to both the cars and format, as it will honor the heritage of the sport.  The October 26th“Bulwark FR 100 presented by Traffic Management, Inc.” will feature “throwback” paint schemes, heat races and the fan favorite Trophy Dash, pitting the Top 8 cars in qualifying for 8 laps.

“There’s so much history with the October Classic and it really put west coast racing on the map during its time at Mesa Marin Raceway. What a better way to recognize that history, by ‘stepping back in time’ and celebrating the paint schemes from the past.” stated the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series’ Brian Olsen.  “I’m really excited to see the creativity by the teams with what they come up, along with the story behind each throwback paint scheme.”

To go back in time even further, the 2019 October Classic will bring back Heat Races and a Trophy Dash.  With support from AKM Maintenance, the winner of each Heat Race (2) will receive $500, as well as the Trophy Dash winner will take home $500 and start from the pole for the “Bulwark FR 100 presented by Traffic Management, Inc.”

“I love the heat race and trophy dash format. Not only does it give the race fans the opportunity to see the Tour cars on the track an additional time, it also lets a driver that may not qualify well, the chance to help his or her starting spot in the main event.” Olsen commented.  “We greatly appreciate AKM Maintenance stepping up so we can award the teams that win the heat races and trophy dash with some cash because it just ups the ante for those races.  The Trophy Dash is really going to be something to see because the Top 8 cars will more than likely be separated by less than .2 seconds in qualifying.” Olsen concluded.

The legendary “October Classic” continues October 25th and 26that Kern County Raceway featuring the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series “Bulwark FR 100 presented by Traffic Management, Inc.” and NASCAR K&N West Series.
