YOUNG DRIVERS SHARE THE LEAD

IN THE SPEARS SOUTHWEST TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Bakersfield, CA – After two rounds of the 2014 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series, a pair of seventeen-year-old drivers, Brandon White and Jeremy Doss currently share the championship lead with 340 points each.   In 2013, White and Doss were teammates at JD Motorsports during their rookie seasons. For 2014, Doss remains with JD Motorsports, and crew chief Dale Dodds, while White jumped to form his own team with crew chief Dan Joiner.

At the season opener at Madera Speedway, White positioned himself for a shot at the win and on the final lap when Derek Thorn and Jim Pettit got together racing for the lead, White drove to his first SPEARS Southwest Tour Series win.

“It was a great start to the season with a win at Madera and a strong finish at Bakersfield,” stated White. “Our new team is really starting to click and I feel we will get stronger as the season progresses. It’s pretty awesome sharing the points lead with my good friend Jeremy (Doss) and I expect we will be battling all year. I really want to thank the Joiner Motorsports team, Dan, Sunny, Bill and Billy for all they have done for me.”

Three weeks after the season opener at Madera, the series was at the new Kern County Raceway Park for the “DC’s RV Center 100”. After starting 6th, Doss moved into 2nd on lap four, then began a 75 lap battle for the lead with 2010 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series champion, Jonathon Gomez. Doss finally wrestled the top spot from Gomez on lap 79, three laps later, Doss was battling for the lead again; this time with 2012 series champ, Thorn. Under pressure, Doss hit his marks and drove to his second career SPEARS Southwest Tour Series victory.

“That was a big win for us at Kern,” Doss said.  “We raced so hard all one hundred laps, first with Jonathon (Gomez), then with Derek. My team gave me such an awesome racecar, it felt really good for us to get a win on a track like Kern. It’s been a good start to our season, so we’ll do our best to keep the momentum on our side.”

Heading to the 3/8 mile Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, Doss has the advantage on paper over White, as Doss drove to an 11th and a 3rd at the Bullring in 2013, compared to White’s 12th and 23rd place finishes.

Rounding out the top ten in the current SPEARS Southwest Tour Series point standings are Jacob Gomes in 3rd, Ross Strmiska 4th, Thorn in 5th, followed by Greg Voigt, Carlos Vieira, Keith Spangler, and top rookie contenders, Cole Loftsgard and Garret Archer rounding out the top ten.

The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will roll into the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this Friday for an open practice, followed by race day on Saturday, featuring the 5th annual GoLiveStream.TV ‘Blackjack 121’. The NASCAR Grand American Modifieds, Bombers, Bandoleros, the SRL Legends Tour, and the SRL S2 Tour Series will join the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series at the Bullring.
