UPDATES & REMINDERS AS WE MOVE FORWARD TO 2017

 

 

First, we want to thank each team owner, driver, team member, family member and sponsor who supported the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series and its events in 2016. Without a doubt it was one of the best race seasons in the series’ 16-year history. As we move towards 2017, we will continue to make well thought out improvements for the series to steer it into the future. We are always mindful of the impact that each and every decision we make will affect each of you, as we strive to make the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series the best race series of its kind in the nation.

 

NOTES:

 

TOP TEN HONORED: On Thursday evening, February 9th, the top 10 drivers and teams of the 2016 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series season will be honored on stage at Buck Owens Crystal Palace. The evening will follow the first full day at the track of the Winter Showdown, as practice will end in the late afternoon then teams and guests will converge on the ‘Crystal Palace’ for a combined Winter Showdown “Kick Off Party”, and presentations to the top SRL drivers of 2016. No tickets required, this event is open to the public and reservations through the ‘Crystal Palace’ are encouraged.

 

 

2017 RULEBOOK: Meetings will take place during the PRI show to finalize the 2017 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Rule Book. Look for the rulebook to be posted shortly after the PRI show.

 

 

WINTER SHOWDOWN TESTING: Testing for the 2017 Winter Showdown may be scheduled by calling Kern County Raceway directly at 661-835-1264. Winter Showdown testing will be allowed up to the end of the day on Tuesday, February 7th. There is an Open Winter Showdown Test Day on Sunday, February 5th. Always call Kern County Raceway for any planned Winter Showdown testing.

 

 

2017 SCHEDEULE: As work continues to formalize the 2017 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series schedule of events, here are the tentative race dates; March 25, April 22, May 20, June 24 – TBA, July 15, August 19, September 2, September 30, October 28, and November 18. Host race tracks include; Irwindale Speedway, Kern County Raceway, Madera Speedway, Rocky Mountain Raceways, The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Tucson Speedway. A more formalized schedule announcement is coming.

 

 

2017 TESTING POLICY FOR SRL: See Attached, the details of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series ‘Testing Policy’ for 2017. This is independent of the Winter Showdown.

 

 

DIRECTOR OF COMPETITION: Florida’s Ricky Brooks, the top tech man in all of Super Late Model racing will be the Director of Competition for the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series in 2017, starting at the Winter Showdown. Larry Collins will attend all SRL events, and will continue to work closely with Brooks and the current officiating staff of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series.

 

 

PETERS RACING ENGINES: Upon exclusive approval by the national S.E.A.L. committee, Brad Peters of Peters Racing Engines, has be granted approval to be the only west coast certified S.E.A.L. rebuilder of the three S.E.A.L. approved Super Late Model engines from Hamner, McGunegill and Progressive.
